Company Cars - Do they get a fair Deal?

Is a company car a perk or an essential tool for your Job?

Do you get a fair Mileage allowance for travelling in a company car?

Is the tax you pay for you company car a fair reflection of its value to you?

These are questions different people will ask about company cars, as a rule you will tend to find
those drivers who have a company car think they pay too much and can claim too little,
and those who dont, think they get it too easy as they have a nice new car to drive which they dont
actually pay for.

Hopefully this page will help people who dont have a company car understand the real cost of ownership
and for those who do have a company car, highlight where you are being ripped off!

When you are given a company car it is allocated a value to be used in working out the tax paid for
using the car.
WWhen this value is worked out, and the tax is calculated, no account it taken for the number of busines
miles you actually drive!
Surely if you drive thousands of miles each year as part of your Job you should not have to pay for this
Privialage!
In the old days if you travelled over a certain number of miles you qualified for reduced tax as the car
was then seen as a necessary tool for your job.
We belive this is much fairer than the current system, which is purley based on Value / Emissions

You may ask but if your car pollutes more then you should pay more, as much as we may partially agree
with this many company car drivers dont get much choice in the car they are given, so have no way
to lower this tax burden. Why should you have to pay more so your company can get a better deal?

Below we have produced a couple of fueld calculators, that will help company car users negotiate better
deals with employers - Did you know employers can pay more than the recommended amount per
mile as long as they can prove the extra should not be used as extra income?

These calculators aim to show you:

How much it currently costs per mile according to Government MPG Figures

How this differs from what you can claim according to the Government figures. See Below

Standard Amounts you can Claim (Link opens in a new Tab / Window)

How much it costs you using your cars average MPG figures

How much your losing each year.

How much in petrol allowances you would get if you gave up your company car and bought your own.
